The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has developed proposals with Medical Architecture for the adjoining Brompton Fulham Road Wing in Chelsea

World-leading cancer centre The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has developed proposals with Medical Architecture and submitted a large planning application for the adjoining Brompton Fulham Road Wing in Chelsea. The proposed new £65m Cancer Centre will link the leading specialist Cancer hospital with the UK’s only National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre dedicated solely to Cancer. The design entails the complete reconfiguration of a multi-storey hospital building within an urban Conservation Area to provide specialist oncology inpatient and outpatient services.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust states, “It is the view of The Royal Marsden that such a precious healthcare resource in this location should not be lost to residential use and we want to ensure that this opportunity to secure our long-term future is not missed.”

Senior Director for Medical Architecture, Christopher Shaw said, “This application required a deft political sensitivity for the client to grasp this development opportunity. The project involves the replacement of all building floors to achieve the functional needs of a modern specialist hospital, provide a high quality patient environment with improved accessibility and way-finding. An attractive modern interior is crafted to work sympathetically with the retained and restored historic building facades.”
