Carbon Trust and Siemens launch green technologies finance scheme

THE Carbon Trust and MedTech industry leader, Siemens, have joined forces to launch a new finance scheme aimed at helping large organisations like hospitals to adopt innovative 'green' technologies. Under the project, the Carbon Trust will provide a reliable assessment of the carbon, energy and cost savings of any application for finance, while the provision of funding will come from Siemens Financial Services (SFS). It is hoped the move will help those NHS trusts struggling to find the capital to pay for improvements such as solar panels and combined heat and power systems to press ahead with their energy reduction efforts. It is also open to large companies looking to make improvements to their own operations. Myles McCarthy from the Carbon Trust said: "Enabling investment in such technologies as low-energy lighting, energy-efficient motors, low-carbon air conditioning or biomass heating, the new dedicated green finance scheme is a first and will enable professional services businesses to invest in equipment which not only saves energy costs, but also often helps improve productivity. This new finance facility - which matches monthly payments to real monthly energy cost savings - will improve business competitiveness, cut carbon and boost the green growth."
