Bloodhound will manage and track blood supplies to increase security and enhance patient safety

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is deploying the Bloodhound management and tracking solution to enhance security and improve patient safety.

The trust is implementing the system from MSoft eSolutions to provide positive identification of users and patients and indepth auditing of all bloods across each and every stage of the transfusion process – to help get the right blood into the right patient.

It will be introduced immediately across five of the trust’s network of nine hospitals in Wansbeck, North Tyneside, Hexham, Berwick and Alnwick. It will also be integrated into the £75m specialist emergency care hospital due to open in East Cramlington in 2014.

Matt McAlister, managing director of MSoft eSolutions, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Northumbria to provide the trust with our Bloodhound system, which will significantly enhance patient safety.

“This is a busy trust with more than 1,200 beds which has rightly recognised the importance of harnessing the very best in technology as part of its overall patient care.

“Hospitals need to know that the technology they invest in will provide them with the sophisticated, efficient and, most importantly, secure and safe systems they require.

“Northumbria represents our latest contract win having previously won all eight of the tenders we bid for during the past financial year. This achievement vindicates all the hard work and innovation we bring to our product development and delivery.”

The contract was secured through an NHS Supply Chain procurement framework agreement.
