Work starts on new clinic building

Work has started on the creation of a new health centre in Barnsley.

Derbyshire-based Wildgoose Construction has moved onto the site of the new Dodworth Medical Centre in Woodland Drive.

Expected to open this autumn, the surgery will provide accommodation for three GPs, with improved facilities for patients, including disabled access, a community cafe and parking.

The clinic will replace the existing medical centre which is a short distance away in Dodworth Road.

The single-storey L-shaped building has been designed by Race Cottam Architects and will be clad in pale grey brick and varying shades of green render. It will be sited next to a large public open space.

Project manager for the scheme is Auburn Ainsley, with ARUP taking on structural engineering work and acting as M&E consultants onsite.

Tim Walker, managing director of Wildgoose Construction, said: “We are confident the patients who use this medical centre will be delighted with their new facilities once completed and will enjoy the architectural excellence built into the design.”
