Firm to develop new North Ayrshire Community Hospital

Balfour Beatty has been named as preferred bidder to develop the new £47m North Ayrshire Community Hospital.

The development in Kilwinning Road, Irvine, is being commissioned by NHS Ayrshire & Arran and will provide a modern facility for the delivery of community medical and mental health services.

The two-storey building will be sited alongside the Ayrshire Central Hospital site and is being funded via the Scottish no-profit distributing model.

The facility will provide 206 beds for people who need level of care and rehabilitiation that can only be provided during a stay in hospital.

Over the next few months, NHS Ayrshire & Arran staff will work with Balfour Beatty's design team to finalise the detailed design of the development.

Construction is expected to start in the summer with the new facility due to open in spring 2016.

Balfour Beatty beat shortlisted rivals Morgan Sindall and Bilfinger Berger to the contract.
