Regulatory approval covers mesh fixation in moth open and laparoscopic hernia repair

B. Braun Medical has further developed its tissue adhesive Histoacryl, securing CE mark approval for mesh fixation in both open and laparoscopic hernia repair.

The market-leading super-strength tissue adhesive, which has been used in hospitals worldwide since the 1960s – has now been adapted to treat and help reduce post-operative pain and complications suffered by hernia patients.

The move means B.Braun Medical is now the only UK company to be awarded a CE mark for mesh fixation via the open Lichtenstein technique.

Mark Culf, national business development manager at B. Braun Medical, said: “Clinical trial data has shown that Histoacryl is an effective, fast and cost-effective alternative to fixating meshes with sutures, tackers and staplers.

“There is also less chance of the patient suffering from chronic pain and a lower complication rate has been observed. We are delighted that B. Braun Medical is the only company in the UK with a CE Mark for fast and effective mesh fixation with a tissue adhesive.”

To further expand the uses of Histoacryl for use during mesh fixation, B. Braun Medical will bealso be launching a brand new applicator towards the end of this year that will enable it to be used laproscopically in keyhole hernia repair.
