Investor and developer to lead creation of consolidated primary care centre

Warrington's Assura Group has been selected as the preferred bidder for a new 35,500sq ft health centre in Suffolk.

Assura Group will act as both investor and developer, with the project scheduled for completion in the spring of 2014.

The new integrated health centre in Church Field Road will see the services currently provided by Walnuttree Hospital, ActonLane Clinic, St Leonard’s and Siam GP practice consolidated under one roof.

Simon Gould, development manager at Assura Group, said: “We’re delighted to be named as the preferred bidder for the project. NHS Suffolk has been campaigning for an improvement in services in Sudbury for some time and the new centre will not only drastically improve facilities, but will also provide a cohesive service for Sudbury’s patients.”

Mark Marshall, head of corporate development and infrastructure at NHS Suffolk, added: “The need to update some of the old healthcare buildings in the area demanded a solution that delivers real benefits to local people. Working with the local community and a professional team, we created a building design that will deliver all of this while at the same time also looking impressive. It will be a focal point for the surrounding area.”

Murphy Philipps Architects designed the building, with Galliford Try the contractors on the scheme.
