Lock manufacturer will show latest security solutions at Patient First 2016

Leading lock manufacturer Abloy UK is presenting its range of security solutions at Patient First 2016, as well as discussing current trends such as the shift towards keyless locking integration. Visitors to stand J22 can learn about solutions such as PROTEC2 CLIQ, Traka21, SMARTair, cabinet locks and radio-frequency identification (RFID).

Held at ExCeL London on 22-23 November 2016, Patient First is an event for those operating within the NHS and independent healthcare sectors, aimed at giving the practical and advanced advice needed to create action for change, to improve operational efficiencies and CQC rating.

One of the key systems currently taking the healthcare sector by storm is web-based security management solution PROTEC2 CLIQ, which allows for the remote management of electronic master-key systems. Scunthorpe Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham are two of the most recent sites where the system has been installed, with good feedback from both nurses and management.

PROTEC2 CLIQ provides comprehensive audit trails on medicine cabinet cylinders and padlocks, and the ability to remove lost or stolen keys from the system, thereby providing tight key management at all times. This means nurses can be more efficient as they do not have to waste time looking for keys, and medicines are secured more effectively.

PROTEC2 CLIQ can be combined with the Traka21 key management system, which provides nurses with access to a single key for the duration of their shift. By entering their unique PIN code to access a specific key, which they validate using the wall programming unit, they can access every cabinet they’re authorised to open.

Abloy will be discussing how patients’ belongings and prescribed drugs can be kept safe from theft or damage too. This can be a challenge for NHS organisations due to the movement of patients during their stay, their reluctance to hand over property for safekeeping and the volume of patients seen on NHS premises. By securing these personal items in a cabinet or locker fitted with an RFID lock, patients can have peace of mind that their belongings are secure, and only they can access them using an RFID access card.

‘We see Patient First as the ideal opportunity to meet face-to-face with staff from the healthcare sector, and discuss the issues that are affecting them, their staff and their patients,’ said Shaun Powell, General Sales Manager at Abloy UK. ‘By understanding the challenges they need to overcome, we can recommend proven security solutions that have a significant positive impact on the working lives of healthcare staff, with systems such as PROTEC2 CLIQ and Traka21 already proving very successful and cost effective in this sector.’
