Cash gives patients resources to monitor health conditions from home

A £10m investment will support the use of health monitoring technology for patients in Scotland.

Scottish Health Secretary, Alex Neil, announced the funding as part of an expansion of home telehealth services.

He said the money will give people the resources to self care, using technology such as iPads and smartphones to monitor conditions like diabetes and heart problems from home.

The investment comes after the Government announced it was injecting a further £10m into ensuring patients have secure online access to their health records by 2020.

Neil said “I am determined that as technology continues to evolve, digital health tools will play a bigger part of our NHS and support our vision for 21st-century healthcare."

The money will allow more patients to use telehealth and telecare services and will enable them to contact health and care professionals directly through their smartphone, making everyday tasks such as booking appointments and ordering repeat prescriptions easier and quicker.
