North Mersey Health Informatics Service (HIS) has appointed Stephen Appleton in the newly-created role of clinical informatics lead for its Best Use of Informatics (BUoI) programme.
Appleton, who has been working on the informatics elements of the Merseyside-wide QIPP Programme, is being tasked with improving quality, productivity and efficiency savings. The role also encompasses a strong innovation element with current projects including utilising mobile working to develop agile working practices within the HIS.
The role is pivotal in ensuring that the IM&T workstream is fully engaged with the clinical community.
Appleton joined North Mersey HIS in 2007 as a clinical business analyst after coming from Mersey Care NHS Trust where he served as a registered nurse. He has extensive clinical experience in both acute and community care settings, including working at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, Aintree Hospital and at a number of community health trusts.
Mark Bostock, head of North Mersey HIS, said: “Stephen brings diverse and indepth experience from more than over 10 years working in the healthcare sector. His knowledge of how IM&T can be utilised to support clinical staff, improve efficiency through the mobilisation of the workforce, the streamlining of processes and the redesign of applications will be invaluable in our offerings to stakeholders.”
